BUFFALO, NY
During last weekend’s tournament in Buffalo, NY, Jason locked himself into a small closet and was unable to get out for over an hour. He walked into the closet thinking it was a door that led him to another room, the door shut quickly behind him before he could realize he was stuck. Mica was shortly behind him but struggled trying to open the door from her end. It was dark and dingy where Jason was stuck but he managed to find a set of stairs. He started climbing the stairs looking for an exit, but the higher he got the more narrow and small the stairs got, until they took him nowhere but another enclosed wall. Just when he was about to give up, the light started shining through another door that was not present before, he was set free!
WAUSAU, WI
Tournament StoriesWhile we were headed for a fun filled weekend in Wausau, WI for the Macker Tournament we came to a stop at a toll road. Awaiting our arrival was a grumpy troll who wouldn’t let us pass until we paid him a dollar in change. We sat in the car scrounging up all of the change we could find including a few pennies, nickels and dimes. We came up with .50 cents and a dollar bill. We knew we needed change but the dollar bill was going to have to work because we needed to get to the tournament fast! We decided to trick the troll. Before the troll could look at what kind of change we had, we threw it in the change bucket. When he went to stick his head in the bucket to count the change we stepped on the gas and flew past him to continue our trip to Wausau, WI.
The Macker Tournament had begun in Wausau, WI and the players took their positions on the court. One player in particular stood out with his whole body painted blue. Just after a few minutes, the scorching sun beamed on his body making the paint drip everywhere. By the end of the game, his teammates, and components were covered in blue paint. Everyone started chanting and cheering and became known as the famous “blue boy” at the tournament.
During the Dunk Contest, one contestant tried to run and jump over the gator. He was so high in the air we all though he was golden until his toe got caught on the back of the gator and he landed in the bed of the trunk. The basketball flew out of his hands when he landed, bounced off the backboard and landed in the hoop.
LUDINGTON, MI TOURNAMENT
Tournament StorieDuring our staff dinner party in Ludington, MI, Kristin was forced to sing a song in front of about 20 people. With out any hesitation, she got on top of the table and busted out the Western Michigan University fight song.
“Fight on, fight on for Western!
Take the ball, make the score
Win the game
Onward for the brown and gold
Push 'em back, push 'em back!
Bring us fame!
Fight on, fight on for Western!
Over one, over all, We will reign!
Fight, Broncos fight!
Fight with all your might!
Western win this game!”
The only one that seemed to enjoy this entertainment was the dog sitting in the corner who started howling with the beat of the song, and growled every time she sang the word “Western”. We think they should start their own band.
We don’t know if you like snakes, but 2 men at the Ludington, MI Macker Tournament were wearing live snakes around their necks like scarves while playing basketball. Right before one of the guys shot the basketball, his snake slithered onto the ball and landed in the hoop while still wrapped around the ball. It was quite a ride for the little guy.
