Chill out in Chillicothe with Gus Macker; it's a family tradition
The Gus Macker Tournament of Chillicothe promotes family fun and wants to be your partner in an event that has become a family tradition for many over the last 22 years.
Plans for the 24th Chillicothe Macker on June 21 and 22 include having registered officials on each court to enhance and keep the competition clean for participation from players of all ages and levels of experience. A mini-Macker division is included for those ages 6 and up. A "Dream Court" for the younger set is again in the plans, and don't forget the high-flying slam dunk competition where standout players put on a thrilling show.
The courts will be set up on the campus of Ohio University-Chillicothe for the second consecutive year. Put 101 University Drive in your GPS application to find us, and be part of the fun. Bring the whole family. Food vendors, inflatable toys for the youngsters and a general family festival atmosphere will ensue.
Visitors for Macker weekend will find a community rich in history to explore. Chillicothe is named for a division of the Shawnee people, historic inhabitants of the area. The vibrant city that first developed was the first and the third capital of Ohio. The Majestic Performing Arts Center has been the center of arts in the city for 160 years, and has hosted the likes of Milton Berle and Laurel and Hardy. Tours of the historic theatre are available.
The Adena Sports Medicine Team is once again committed to sponsoring and hosting the Macker. Proceeds go back to the community through the Adena Athlete of the Month Program, which recognizes outstanding senior high school athletes. The program recognizes one senior female and one senior male each month October through April based on a combination of the student's grade point average, athletic skills, leadership qualities and proven dedication to their community. Each winner receives $200 to contribute to their athletic program. In addition, the student is eligible to apply for the $3,000 Adena Athlete of the Year Scholarship.
The true spirit of a Macker event is family fun in a festival atmosphere which helps others. The Chillicothe Macker is a perfect example.
