The Gus Macker three on three basketball tournament returns to the City of Norwich for a 17th annual visit on July 6, 7, and 8, 2012 as our community of 7,000 people doubles in size and becomes a fun filled family basketball festival, all in the name of charity.
Norwich is considered to be “in the middle of nowhere but close to everything” including commerce nearby in Binghamton, Syracuse, Utica and Ithaca.
The Norwich Family YMCA is proud to host this annual event for our community. We hope you enjoy your weekend and we encourage you to visit our downtown shopping district filled with great restaurants and quaint store fronts. Additionally, the weekly Farmers Market will be on Saturday and you can spend time in between games visiting the Northeast Classic Car Museum, the Chenango County Historical Society, The Bull Thistle Model Railroad Museum, and The Chenango County Council of the Arts.
Additionally our local communities offer fine eateries, endless shopping opportunities; antiquing, and an overall sense of hometown friendliness.
After this weekend’s festivities at Norwich Gus Macker we encourage you to return to Chenango County for area events and festivals like: General Clinton Canoe Regatta; Pagent of Bands; Bluegrass festivals; Unadilla Valley Sports Center; Greene Arts and Crafts Festival; Chenango County Fair; Chenango County Blues Festival; Colorscape Chenango; Greene Apple Fest; Pumpkin Festival & Halloween Parade; and the annual Holiday Parade of Lights.
In the name of “Charity” this community event directly supports the Norwich Family YMCA and the many programs and services that they provide. In addition this weekend event provides a venue for local restaurants to promote their fine food and hospitality.
Many community based organizations like the Girls Basketball Boosters, The Lions Club, Holy Family School, The Scouts, Relay for Life, and many more utilize this event to raise money for thei local agencies. Collectively the annual Gus Macker tournament in Norwich raises well over $25,000 for local not for profits.
Whether you have been playing hoops for years, just beginning or just want to watch a great community event with a focus on youth and family, we encourage you to visit this year’s event. While in Norwich we encourage you to support our event, eat locally, spend the night, visit a local museum, and most importantly to have fun with your family.
