CELEBRATING 45 Years of 3-ON-3
LEARN MORE ABOUT
Gus Macker, the always-popular, family festival of fun and 3-on-3 basketball, is returning to Sterling after a nearly 10-year hiatus.
It is presented by April House Children’s Advocacy Center of Whiteside County as a fundraiser for its mission of continuing to help child victims of mental, sexual and physical abuse serving the entire Whiteside County, and the action is planned for June 17 and 18 at Northland Mall, 2900 E. Lincolnway in Sterling.
As in the past, all ages are welcome to play against teams with similar age, height and experience. The biggest change from Macker tournaments of the past is that all courts will have professional basketball officials. It’s a kinder, gentler game at Macker these days having evolved from the practice of calling your own fouls.
In addition to the usual courts for men and women of all ages, the kids from ages 5 to 13 will get some special attention on the popular Dream Court. On Dream Court various teams get the chance to play in front of a live announcer on the sound system complete with introductions, a run through the tunnel of fans, special prizes and even post-game interviews.
